Pros

Whether you have a positive experience or negative experience at Penn State all depends on which department you end up in. For the most part, Penn State offers a very nice work-life balance and there are lots of opportunities for professional development.

Cons

Low salary, political. Easy to get lost in the system.

Pros

Faculty are very open to working with students, there is much collaboration, and while there is some competition among graduate students, it is not cut-throat like other universities. Students are always willing to help each other out and work together on projects and assignments.

Cons

Like any graduate program, the pay is not very high, but when all the benefits are considered it is more than fair. Some faculty members can be very demanding, while others are more flexible, it is important to find someone who is the right fit. Class options can be very limited some semesters.
