Pros

I enjoyed working as a math grader at Penn State for three years as an undergraduate student. The hours were flexible since I graded papers at my apartment and just turned in my papers at the end of the week.

Cons

Some professors that I worked with did not have a grasp of time and often asked for too many problems to be graded per homework assignment.

Pros

This is the environment where you are paid while learning. Depending to the department you are involved with the conditions may change, but the faculty is generally very supportive, and the work is paying itself when your work is recognized by conferences, journals.

Cons

Since when you are a graduate assistant you are in late 20s or 30s it is time to have a family, but the income may not be enough to support a family.
