Pros

College town is very safe so that one can focus on research and working late.

Cons

The research facility is not sufficient for a research university.

Pros

If you are absolutely sure you want to follow an academic career path then PSU is a reasonable choice. Decently cheap location, diverse departments ect.

Cons

Location, not very many activities to do. Nearest large cities are four plus hours away. Also signing contracts that were not all terms are honored by direct managment is a reall issue.

Pros

If you like the outdoors, don't mind the cold, and are not expecting the amenities of a major city, Penn State can be a great place to do your graduate work.

Cons

Penn State is at least three hours from everywhere: NYC, Philadelphia, DC, etc. While this may not sound like much, most grad students find it difficult to make the time to leave town.
