Pros

-state college is a cheap place to live, friendly people, safe town, great atmosphere -school paper is great for some laughs when you're feeling down -students raising money for kids with cancer through THON -you can meet the most amazing students -games at beaver stadium -state college spikes

Cons

-faculty are often too stuck up to realize that they are, many faculty get caught up in their numerous committees, that allocate waste of precious university money. -the weight room is not open before 630 M-F -parking services will ticket your car in less than 5 minutes when you're in the wrong zone

Pros

This is the environment where you are paid while learning. Depending to the department you are involved with the conditions may change, but the faculty is generally very supportive, and the work is paying itself when your work is recognized by conferences, journals.

Cons

Since when you are a graduate assistant you are in late 20s or 30s it is time to have a family, but the income may not be enough to support a family.

Pros

some of the best things about penn state are its stability and certainty in keeping jobs in state college. the people do make it a great place to work. we work together as a team. people generally like working with one another. the vision to reach students is uncompromising and fufulling. i'm not sure there is another college or university out there that reaches as deeply into the community and the state itself. there is growth (although slow at times). the benefits package is incredible. it makes up for dismal salaries and smaller chances to advance. advancement is heralded, but not seen frequently.

Cons

salaries are terrible (but probably on par for the education market). there is a TON of favoritism.
