Pros

It's a Paycheck. No pros besides that.

Cons

Company if full of Backstabbing haters. Racism and Nepatism are rampant. Guys who can barely read a tape measure are promoted because of who they know or who's butt they kiss. Foremans are angry, All employees live in constant fear of being fired.

Pros

Because it’s a large, National company, you’ll typically make the ranks and there’s pretty ample opportunity for advancement. There is a bonus structure that’s great, IF your branch has the earnings. Doesn’t happen every year for LA given it’s tumultuous nature. They give junior ops members opportunity to take out clients which is neat. For example, you can take a project team you’re working with out for lunch or even a round of golf, etc (within reason/budgets of course). When you start, you will get thrown in and start working and getting into the weeds early on which, personal preference, I believe is the best way to learn.

Cons

This branch in particular is incredibly toxic and they want the operations team to “challenge” each other. For example, they encourage PM/PEs to share their project earnings - essentially pitting people against each other and causing resentment because you never know what pile of dog crud you’re getting from the estimators who are so busy trying to meet quotas, they typically have misses but you can’t really bug them for help - and you have no say in the projects you get or get put on. Management is huge on micromanaging. You are expected to be in the office by 7:30am at the latest and you’re expected to stay until 5:30pm-6pm timeframe regardless of workload. No work/life balance and it’s not promoted, either. I was told to work nights and weekends if need be (and since everyone is overworked and has no help, most operations employees work all day and in the office because optics are most important for PCI LA and go home and continue. Weekends included). It’s a culture of work and keep working.
