Pros

Enjoy working with other Store Leaders, staff, and customers. Not many jobs out there that allow you to "play with the puppies" while working.

Cons

Very stressful position. Job is not for the faint of heart. New ownership has stripped away service hours, reduced bonus structure and put into place a highly competitive scorecard that pits stores against each other. Now stores no longer work together and hold ideas back from one another in order to gain a competitive edge against the group. PetSmart is highly successful at making money at the expense of its employees.

Pros

Must be passionate about animals and their care. Closed on thanksgiving and Christmas, and close early on several other major holidays. Quarterly bonus eligible. Decent medical and dental. Nice vacation earned. Adoption events every weekend rescue countless pets.

Cons

As in ALL retail, expectations are extremely high. They tell you to work 45 hours a week but give you 60 hours worth of work. Scorecard is a little unfair. You are score highly on offered assistance, but most times you only have yourself and two other associates in a large store. District rankings are tough...all stores could be making goals, but someone is always going to be last in the district, and those stores are berated for their rankings (even if you're above plan).

Pros

You can become anything at Petsmart. My friend started off as a janitor, became bather, groomer, operations manager and is on track for store manager working with Petsmart for four years. I was made from a part-time bather to a full-time groomer within 6 months of my hire date. It's super hard to get fired from here too. I make my own paycheck during the holidays and throughout the summer.

Cons

Whole messes of problems here. Corporate manages hours, not allowing enough people to work every day. This creates very stressful situations, one person can call in and screw up the schedule for a week. Turnover is pretty high because of people quitting. Even if you perform your job well, there is no guarantee of achieving a full-time status if the corporate approved number of positions are filled. This problem is compounded because 'approved' schedules are put up almost three weeks in advance. The management is often overstressed because they are behind in work so often.
