Pros

After having worked at a private kennel for several years, I was very reluctant to pursue corporate employment. Ever since I have been working at PETCO, I find that I have the best of both worlds. I have the flexibility and comfortability of a private business as well as the benefits of a large corporation. I love going to work everyday because of the wonderful people and animals I work with. I feel very appreciated and cared for by management. I have gained a vast amount of knowledge regarding dog behavior, nutrition, and grooming techniques. Grooming assistants are also given the opportunity to be trained as groomers.

Cons

Obviously, when handling animals there are several risks involved. There are also the occasional difficult customers to deal with. But everything is pretty much manageable.

Pros

The pay is decent, and you get to work with some really cool animals like lizards, aquatics, and birds.

Cons

The store is incredibly understaffed, so the employees who are on the floor feel stressed out and overworked. I can't see myself working here much longer-- it's so stressful.

Pros

Good employees, some interaction with animals, fairly normal hours rarely after 10 pm or before 8am, get good pto if full time

Cons

Ive been with petco 6 months. Biggest issue is never enough payroll. Our store gets 350 hours or less per week. Corporate has things they want rolled out constantly, focus on cli scores, and animal care but fails to give neccessary hours. Animal's are not first at petco, money is. Second issue is the pay. Max raise is now thirty cents. Wont keep good people without taking better care of them. High Turnover due to poor pay and willingness to keep good people part time. Petco is cheap and has yet to reward hard work that I can see. Bottom line not horrible to work at if you happen to be 18 and living at home. otherwise though find something better.
