Pros

Iconic brand, great products, mostly good people that have pride in their work and the end product. The parent company PACCAR offers a strong benefit package including pension, which is very rare. The recent vacation policy improvements are are good start. FINALLY starting to see progress in workplace environment. Don't stop, keep it up! Flex schedule offered is good for working parents. Opportunities exist to gain experience in various other areas within PACCAR.

Cons

The workload disparity is huge and quite evident between sustaining engineering and new programs. Paccar seeme to run extremely understaffed for new projects and programs which are then coupled with unrealistic timelines and savings expectations set by management. Most of the interesting engineering work done at the technical center or by suppliers. Design engineers are constantly burdened with work that in all reality should be handled by other departments that they work alongside. As an engineer you can expect to spend more time in Excel and creating PowerPoint presentations than doing real engineering work. There are numerous forms of documentation, many of which are redundant. Six Sigma tools and processes are used improperly, primarily for the purpose of reporting misleading savings through the organization to shareholders. The numerous buisness systems are quite limited, often redundant and VERY antiquated, improved productivity and product quality would be obtained with improvements here. Even with the recent attempts to improve the office area, a lot of work is still needed to bring this place up to par based on competition in DFW. Some mid-level managers are out of touch with 3D modeling and tend to hesitate to learn newer systems.

Pros

Decent pay and benefits. It's very repetitive so if you like that kind of stuff this is for you. Great place to wear yourself out.

Cons

Horrible management and equality of work. Very heavy work loads. Location is not the best. People there are very negative.
