Pros

When they have work they call you...Until they don't

Cons

Pinkerton Houston has very few actual employees. They subcontract out most everything to smaller outside companies that have the talent and experience to do the jobs. Pinkerton takes a massive cut of the pie and then the rest goes to the company that has agreed to do the work. Pinkerton has a habit of hiring too many part time employees and then when there is not enough work to keep them busy, angers when they go elsewhere. Because of this, Pinkerton management staff when trying to fill their work orders would rather contact a subcontractor that will do all the work from staffing and dealing with all that the job entails from beginning to end. They never hire full time employees and just rotate through a seemingly never ending supply of part time ones. They used to pay decent, but now they only pay $25.00 an hour. If you have worked for them on jobs before as well as other Security companies this could pose a problem later on. If one day, one of the security company you do work for out side of Pinkerton accepts a contract from Pinkerton and then that company calls you and asks you to work the job for say $35.00 an hour, Pinkerton will tell that company that you work for them and that they will only pay you $25.00. They didn't call you to work it, another company did. However, as long as you worked for them before, they will say you're still one of their contractors and pay you less. Even though the contracted company is paying their other employees at a higher rate. When looking at the resumes and work histories of the actual Pinkerton management staff, one has to wonder how they got their positions because upon viewing their credentials, work history and experience, they didn't possess the background or experience to be where they are. Clearly the old adage, "It's not what you know, it's who you know", is Pinkerton's mantra and it's in full force. If you need a temporary stone to jump to while traversing the boggy path toward attaining your career goals, then Pinkerton may be that temporary stop you need to regroup. Don't plan on being there too long especially if your experience dwarfs any of theirs.

Pros

This iconic company is follows a set of values set down in 1852, but are timeless: Integrity, excellence and vigilance. The whole company is in a rising growth period, and those able to adapt well to dynamic and challenging environments will find themselves right at home here. If you require rigid structure to feel good about your job, you'll probably want to keep looking; the company values well-communicated ideas almost as much as it values flawless execution and attention to detail.

Cons

Pinkerton demands nothing short of one's best effort, and for salaried people that means long days, many weekends, and interrupted social events are the norm. If you're looking for a work-life balance that promotes a vibrant social life outside of work, you will probably be disappointed. But this is a place where you get out of it what you put into it.
