Pros

-Opportunity to learn about an interesting industry -If you're under 30, plenty of same-aged colleagues to socialize with -Decent benefits from Morningstar -Worked with some very talented people but few of them appreciated or rewarded -Tons of free booze, could drink at desk

Cons

-Pay is significantly under-market -Lots of shadiness, politics, and backstabbing -High turnover, the most talented people are constantly being poached or getting fed up -Promotes from within, but given that the best people always leave, some shockingly incompetent men at the director and VP level -Immaturity seems to be the primary criteria for sr. hires -No women in leadership except head of HR ( recently went through 3 in 18 months) -Little to no mentoring since very few employees over 35 -Complete inflexibility for those w families -CEO is totally checked out, rarely shows up

Good growth opportunities, lacking in org maturity

Pros

- There are many opportunities for career growth, including lateral movement within the company. - Some of the managers provide great support for their teams -- fostering career growth, shielding them from organizational turmoil, advocating for their value to upper management. This varies from team to team, but when present was the largest factor in employee success in my view. - The Seattle office can be a pretty fun place to work - some teams in particular do a great job of building community through casual conversations, sharing food, etc. - The benefits package is fairly good (401k match, transportation, med/dent/vis)

Cons

- High churn in surprising parts of the company, like product (top talent at PB is regularly poached by other companies) and admin (ex: during my tenure, PB went through 3 different HR directors). Some of this might be explained by the following notes. - Salary and other compensation lags behind the tech industry. - I observed several diversity-focused initiatives lose momentum because, in my opinion, they had no access to data on hiring, compensation, promotion and were not empowered by leadership to make a real impact within the company. - For a company of its size, particularly after having been acquired by a large firm several years ago, PitchBook either (a) lacks robust HR policies surrounding performance reviews, harassment, parental leave, & more or (b) has failed to communicate changes in policy to existing employees.

Thank you for the feedback. I am glad to hear you were able to take advantage of many of the great programs and benefits over your three+ years at PitchBook. As you experienced, PitchBook doubled in size over the past few years and certainly experienced growing pains as part of that process. As the VP of People, I have been at PitchBook for over a year and have doubled the size of the People team in that time to support our growing population. I am sorry to hear you were unaware of some of our benefits like our parental leave program and educational programs – including the required anti-harassment training. We’ll continue to embrace & drive change as we grow as an organization. We probably won’t be perfect, but we’ll certainly strive for excellence! Best of luck to you in your next adventure.
