Pros

as mentioned previously one of the best reasons to strat at Pitney Bowes is if you are interested in going into b2b sales. It is pretty well known that the salary levels make former or current PBers great targets for recruiting by other outside sales companies. During my tenure it was not unusual to average at least one solicitation per month (for 5 years) form a recruiter/headhunter that was looing for pharm reps. It is also a great way to learn the workings of corporate structure and the hierarchy of organizations. A great place to brush up on communicatiopn skills.

Cons

Obviously salary is the first and most often complained part of working for Pitney Bowes. In a nutshell the word potential is bandied about quite often without any real substance behind the claim. It is true that you can make a decent living at it, but like many other things you have to learn the product before you can sell it. More often than not it seems that upper managenment encourages local managers and directors to perpetuate the 100k myth to keep the applicants coming. Seems like it's cheaper to keep the turnover high and the salaries low. Thats it.

Pros

There are two positives to working for Pitney Bowes. One is the benefits are above average and two Pitney Bowes offers young people the opportunity to gain some sales training and experience to help them secure a better position after a couple of years.

Cons

The major downside to PB is that they are about to become a dinosaur. Technology has made many of their products obsloete and they have been slow to move into this century. They finally realize that the postage meter is a dying breed but may be too late in expanding their line of solutions to be a reasonable business partner in today's business climate. If you are an experienced sales professional the base salaries are very low based on comparable positions with other companies.

Pros

Pitney Bowes is a great company to learn how to deal with people. If sales is the path you want to take for a career, consider Pitney to be a boot camp of sorts. The corporate structure of training and employee development is what the company is good at, making money is another story.

Cons

One of the major downsides of working at Pitney Bowes is the fact that the company will preach "how much opportunity there is out there", but in reality, their customers are not aware of all of the other company offerings. Meaning, most people know PB for the mail machine products. To make money at Pitney, you're asked to sell larger "systems solutions" now. When you go to visit a customer, they are thinking postage meter/mailing machine the entire time, not these other solutions that the company would like you to sell (folding inserting equipment, software, distribution solutions, etc) With respect to the direction the company has been going in... they teach to foster the sale. With times being the way they are right now, there isn't enough accounts in any of our pipelines to justify the quotas they set for the reps. Any given rep has at least 5 or more different quotas. Mailing, Mail Creation, Tabletop, Distribution Solutions, MVS, PDP, Envelopes, Ink & Toner, SS&G...arggghhhh! ENOUGH! It's madness. Yes, PB has so many offerings and "opportunities" to sell to customers, but they lack focus and the ability to market their products to the public. A public who still thinks the only product they offer is mail machines! PB needs to put out a tv commercial or something. What is their marketing department doing up there in Stamford?
