A creative designer's nightmare

Pros

If you've always wanted to work for a company that designs websites and logos to look like they came straight out of the 1980's, you'll fit right in!

Cons

Working for Pixels 360 was an absolute nightmare - let me explain. Management: As another former employee mentioned here, the owner is an absolute terror. Her lack or professional communication and unrealistically high expectations make for an extremely stressful work environment. You end up spending more time dealing with her temper tantrums and spiteful remarks than actually getting anything accomplished. The projects you complete will never be "creative" enough for her, and at the same time, will never be "fast and efficient" enough. If you're stuck working for these guys, I don't envy you. Get out while you still can. Criticism and Idea Theft: Working for this company, I honestly feel like many of my creative concepts were stolen from me. The owner would frequently belittle my work and make me feel as though it wasn't good enough to even show to their clients. I had no idea how to please her or do any "good" work in her eyes. Later you find out that your very same ideas were taken and proposed to the client behind your back... with a little extra "creativity" from the management sprinkled on top. It's a disgusting and shameful way to run a business. Summary / WARNING: Final point here, a warning to people considering working with this company. If you're a creative individual looking to expand your horizons and bring a fresh outlook to a modern company, you're in the WRONG place and you should turn back now. Pixels 360 is stuck in the past with their business model and practices. Anyone who comes in to this company with a vision or skills that eclipse the supreme wisdom of the woman who runs the company will be treated as competition. This is exactly what happened to me. Suddenly for no apparent reason, I was let go - terminated the very same day. No reasons or explanation, just simply fired.

This former employee is a young talented designer and we were excited to have him join the Pixels 360 team about a year ago. However, shortly after joining we realized that he had trouble staying within the client’s specifications, wants and needs. We would give him a project to work on with detailed information about what the client was looking for and what we would get back was what he “thought” was best for the client, not what they wanted. An example – he designed a business card with 4pt type - we tried to explain to him that people with 20/20 vision can see 7pt and above and his response to us was ”It looks better at 4pt”. We did address the issues with him and tried to find a way to get him to color within the lines a bit more, but it just didn’t work out and we had to let him go. I am sorry that he has such negative feelings about our company and our leadership – we thought he was talented, but just not right for our firm. We have been in business for 15 years and we have a team of super talented designers who work very hard to meet the high expectations of our clients. We have experienced tremendous growth in the last few years and this is a direct result of our incredible team producing amazing work in sometimes shorter timeframes to exceed our client’s expectations. We do look for a certain caliber of designer – we owe that to our clients who entrust their creative work to us.

Pros

Honestly, I couldn't be happier with my job at Pixels-360! We have an incredible team of different levels of talented individuals and are close like family. Management goes out of their way to make sure employees are taken care of, have the right supplies and resources to get the job properly done. With any employer communication is a key component to success. With Pixels-360 management always makes sure that everyone is on the same page. I have never worked for a company so understanding as well. The owners respect my time away from work and don't expect work to be crossed over in my personal time. I also feel I am valued and appreciated in the company too. Working hard and putting the extra effort goes a long way and gets noticed.

Cons

I can't think of any cons

Pros

Really none to speak of. Unfortunately not a good place to work.

Cons

The owner of this company is a neurotic micro manager. She creates a tense work environment by constantly sending projects around with little to no direction and then has outbursts/tantrums when you don't do something exactly the way she would have done it. She expects employees to perform multiple tasks outside of their expected job responsibilities. She wants everything done perfectly but gives no time to do so. The days are extremely long - and even then you are expected to be on call at all times. I stopped working at 10pm one night, only to wake up in the middle of the night to harassing emails and texts asking where I was and why I wasn't working on something. She constantly emails in the middle of the night. No work life balance. Employees are expected to use their own computers/memory. The worst part of working here was the owners inappropriate behavior. She berates employees and looks at everything you do under a microscope, she will even blame you for her errors, so you have to watch your back.

I am sorry this former employee has negative feelings about our company and our leadership. She worked for Pixels 360 in 2015 for about 6 months. She was hired as a senior designer and unfortunately didn’t have the level of skill set we were hoping someone would bring to that position. Although we tried to work with her to see if we could help her grow into this position, we were getting calls from clients who were not happy with the level of her work. In the end, we did lose an account because of the issues with this person and it was at that point that we realized we had to let her go. It was clear that she had just over sold herself and we were looking for someone more senior. We currently have a team of super talented designers who work very hard to meet the high expectations of our clients. We are located in the Hingham shipyard and have offices that overlook the Harbor. We provide our employees with computers and laptops suited with all necessary software. We also make sure our employees have any additional equipment, subscriptions and/or tools needed to help them succeed. To help alleviate the sometimes busy days, we plan many fun non-work related activities. We host at least 2 company sponsored lunch outings per month, seasonal company get togethers and bigger events like a day at the Red Sox for the whole team. We do look for a certain caliber of designer – we owe it to our clients to make sure we consistently provide them with a high-level of service.
