Pros

Highly professional environment, extremely focused, but decent work-life balance at the same time. Great compensation and benefits (as in, full comp health, dental, and life for you and your dependents at no charge to you). Flexibility, autonomy, and trust from day 1. Would recommend to anyone with a few caveats.

Cons

If you're coming from the outside, you may be surprised at how buttoned-up it seems. If you're coming from finance, this will not be a shock. Also, it is typical of a hedge fund in that it is about as diverse as a city in Iceland.

Pros

Great benefits. Good and fair pay. Nice artwork. The office and bathrooms are cleaned almost hourly. I believe the air is filtered through 25 HEPA filters, and then once more through diamond dust before entering the trading floor area, as a breath of heavenly angel air.

Cons

Difficult personalities to deal with. No opportunity for advancement. The main focus is money (obviously) but took steps of cost-cutting way too far. Who wants to work for a hedge fund who's drastically cutting costs - costs that affect the livelihood of its employees in a material way, such as decreasing healthcare benefits and increasing prices in the cafeteria.

Decent pay, convinient office location if you live in the city.

Cons

Highly political. Useless incompetent management, out of touch with reality, completelly deranged. Grab for power games within middle management, with zero pnl contribution. The whole operation is designed to steal your models / ideas / IP, and then redistribute internally with the help of a cheif scientist, as is has been done to multiple researchers and portfolio managers.
