Pros

Good way to get your foot into the door of the pharmaceutical industry. Variety of clients, TAs, drugs, and work streams.

Cons

(At least in Chicago) the business model is to hire very junior team members, overwork the junior team members, place a heavy burden on the less junior folks as they train the junior members and carry the teams so that they don’t sink, and then when the junior members inevitably quit from the toxic working environment the senior leadership just replaces them with more junior team members with no experience. They have set up their processes to be very big brother, with the project manager constantly monitoring your whereabouts and literally planning every second of your day. The senior leaders are pathetic leaders who propagate a very high school type of culture — gossiping behind people’s backs. When you question the toxic culture, they’ll just tell you that this is the way it is so don’t question it. Managers and senior leaders will also try to string you along with false promises of promotion. Don’t buy it - talk is cheap.

Poor work life balance and opportunities for advancement

Pros

Great place to get managed markets experience under your belt. Will set you up for a prime position to transition to something better.

Cons

-Poor work life balance, which got especially worse after the pandemic. It was not uncommon to regularly work until 8pm or later routing projects. This was in large part due to the demanding clients who went unchecked, as well as a gross lack of head count. -Very few opportunities for advancement in virtually every department. Glass ceiling mentality. -High turnover in Editorial Dept. So many editors left after not even being there for a full year, including the head of the department. Just couldn't take the crazy deadlines and lack of support any longer. -No opportunities to get trained or up-skilled

Fear and Loathing in Gladstone

Pros

Nothing. This place is a sweatshop with no work life balance or respect for families with newborns.

Cons

Cons? How about the whole place. Leadership is a joke (all of them...from the top to the mid-line managers) but especially Senior/Executive management. They lead by intimidation and fear...do what they say and you'll be fine. Step out of line the slightest bit and you're gone. They have sued previous employees for non-compete violations yet current employees still maintain close, personal contact with those former employees. What a load of crap. I got my bonus but the executive in charge makes everyone feel guilty about it...make sure you send him a thank you note or kiss his ring. He thrives on having his inflated ego stroked.
