It's been great until the last year.

Pros

The co-workers in the FPC are amazing people.

Cons

Everything has changed from a few year ago. Morale is down, bonuses are down and we are being held to a higher standard for less money. We constantly get the short end of the stick when changes are made. It feels dishonest when making appointments for people who likely would have never agreed to an appointment had they known it was a sales pitch.

Pros

Great coworkers. At the time I worked there, the company did a lot of neat activities to keep the atmosphere fun and upbeat. Half day Fridays. When I was there, all employees spent a full day off the phones to attend workshops and brainstorming sessions to find ways to make the company more efficient and to place in The Oregonian's top 10 workplaces. (They held that spot for several years, then employee approval ratings suddenly dropped.)

Cons

At the time I was there, Planners had to make 100 dials a day, which I could never achieve, no matter how hard I tried. I am friends with former coworkers who are still there and they tell me the dials requirement is much higher and failure to meet the minimum is grounds for dismissal. With some leads, I felt dishonest and shady, and like I was tricking them into making an appointment so I could hit my benchmark and earn the $40 bonus for the appointment. On top of these stresses, I was completely bored out of my mind. I made ok money, about $2000 a month, but it wasn't enough to live on. These reasons are why I cried so often about having to go back to work on Monday. The other issue, which was a huge sore spot for most Planners, is that it appeared that the company primarily recruited for all non-Planner roles from a single out-of-state university. It was nearly impossible for Planners to move up to any other job, regardless of education or experience. Because of this barrier to move off the phones, there was a clique-ish atmosphere between the planners and everyone else, and we planners felt looked down upon by other departments.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry this was your experience as we strive to create a culture where employees feel heard by their managers and safe to express their concerns and struggles. When recruiting for open positions, we rely on a number of sources including college career fairs, referrals, and internal candidates. A number of employees who started at Precoa as planners currently work in other departments like Account Management, Agent Support, Field Sales, and Accounting. Due to the nature of the role, we do have some metrics that we ask our planners to meet. These numbers are meant as an early indicator of someone’s activity at work and success in their role. Our planners who are excited about the position make well above the required dials a day, largely because they enjoy connecting with families and consider the company’s purpose to be meaningful and valuable. As a natural result of this, the earning potential for this position can be much higher than stated. We recognize that this can be a challenging job, and it’s not for everyone. We’re proud of the dedicated and empathetic individuals who work in the Planning Center, and the important work they do to serve so many families.

Pros

-Mission driven organization. Privately owned, so the focus is on sustained growth and serving our partners - not maximizing profits for shareholders. -Flat hierarchy. Corporate structure is very accessible, and there are opportunities to make an impact beyond your specific niche if you are proactive. -Amazing coworkers. Kindness is literally a company value, and you see examples of it in every single interaction (internally and externally). -Market leaders. Precoa has a unique, and well established business model that has made them market leaders in their very specific industry. We are growing quickly and consistently, and there are lots of opportunities that come along with that. -Compensation. Good pay (can't speak to other roles/departments) and benefits -Professional growth. Lots of opportunities for professional development. Management will support most activities that improve your development.

Cons

-Kindness as a company value often means that decision making involves a lot of consensus building, which takes time and effort. This may not be suitable for some -Precoa is experiencing some common growing pains as they transition into a more established market leader. For people who crave clear structure and process, there can be some frustrations. On the flip side, there are lots of opportunities for improvement. -Lots of examples of career progression within the company, but not a lot of well defined pathways. People are rewarded for hard work and thoughtful collaboration, but you need to be proactive to progress.
