Pros

Benefits: health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.

Cons

Executives/Directors/Managers/Supervisor care more about lining their own pockets then giving their employees proper pay. Every year they all go on an "Annual Retreat" where they get a separate bonus that does not show in the system. NEPOTISM/FAVORTISM! Hiring/promoting inexperienced individuals for supervisory/managerial positions, over those more qualified simply because they are related to and/or are related to one of the executives/directors. These individuals are also paid more than other employees in the same role. There are executives even with family members working at Fidelity even though this go directly against the employee agreement that we all sign every year. With “The Premier Health Plan” medical coverage, you must stay within the 9 counties for Tier 1 coverage. They also changed the HRA plan for medical insurance where we end up paying more out of pocket.

Poor retention for seasoned nurses

Pros

MVH was a great place to work 12 years ago. We received performance bonuses, cost of living raises and Christmas parties with great food catered in for all shifts. There were more seasoned nurses than new nurses so the new nurses received a lot of support and valuable training experience. The hospital is still a great place for new nurses to gain experience.

Cons

Changes in leadership changed the hospital culture. Leadership did not want to hear about any problems; they only wanted positive feedback. You were labeled a troublemaker if you expressed concerns for patient safety due to patient to nurse ratios. A lot of nurses quit, so most of the units had more new and inexperienced nurses than seasoned nurses which was scary for the new nurses and many became overwhelmed and left. Younger, nurses that told executive leadership were promoted to upper management over seasoned nurses that had put their time in and had the experience to support their decisions. Middle and upper management lost the respect of their floor nurses because most had very little floor experience to guide their decisions and only did what they were told by executives. The last Christmas I was there, the employees had cafeteria food in the new South Tower on a floor that was still under construction.
