Pros

purpose-driven company that is making a significant impact on special education. i cried in my first interview with the company because I knew I had to be a part of the impact these folks are making. a huge pro for me is working with folks that come to work inspired to make PL a better product and service. another pro for me is working alongside some really smart and motivational folks.

Cons

this could be a pro or con: prepare to wear many hats.

Pros

This is the smartest, hardest-working group of people I've ever worked with. Our team has built an excellent core business and we're exploring a number of interesting areas for growth. Overall, we're still a small team so everyone has lot of responsibilities and must wear multiple hats, but it's a fun ride. The company has a generous vacation policy and a solid benefits program as well.

Cons

The office space is getting a little cramped but I guess that happens when you're growing. Teams also feel stretched-thin at times but we make it work.

Founders' egos will be the death of a great idea

Pros

Amazing service that many children need. Good feedback system for the SLPs allowing them to manage their time and work remotely.

Cons

Typical startup with founders who only care about their vision. If you are not from Stanford, don't apply. They are heavily biased. No one except a chosen few are allowed to have input or authority, even over their own departments.

First of all, thank you for the compliments about our service quality and the SPEDinsight system. Thank you also for observing that we are focused on our vision. We definitely believe in what we are doing, and we are committed to working as hard as we can to help students with special needs everywhere in the world. At this point, the Stanford alumni represent just 5 out of 40+ full-time employees. And those 5 Stanford alumni include the 2 founders. Our team members come from all types of schools, but they have a few things in common: a deep commitment to our mission, a pragmatic, fast-moving startup mentality, and a genuinely nice, collaborative workstyle. So if this describes you - whether you went to Stanford or not - we definitely want you to apply. Regarding allowing a chosen few to have input, well, in 5 and a half years, we haven’t had a single manager-level-or-above employee leave the company (that’s about 20 people). These talented team members probably wouldn’t have stuck with the company if they didn’t have input on our direction! We look for people with great ideas, and we empower them to put their ideas into action. If that sounds like your type of work environment, come check us out.
