Pros

The students and the alumni community were truly the highlight of the job. Their passion, intelligence, and pride in Princeton created an energy that made you proud to be associated with the University. The sense of tradition and excellence they bring to the “orange bubble” is inspiring, and their enthusiasm often reminded me of the potential impact of my work, even when the internal culture made it difficult to feel appreciated.

Cons

Working at Princeton University was a mixed experience. One of the major challenges was the workplace culture, which often felt unsupportive for staff not in higher job codes. There was a clear sense that the more you took on, the more was expected—without additional support or recognition. Unfortunately, this created an environment where you felt replaceable, rather than valued. Work-life balance was virtually nonexistent, and there was little to no flexibility or understanding when it came to family obligations or responsibilities.

Pros

Great salary, great benefits, wonderful colleagues, wonderful work environment. Generous PTO, when you can carve out time to take it.

Cons

There is absolutely no career advancement for academic managers, very few are able to jump this track and move into central administration at a higher rank. Many managers settle into their role and stay a decade or more. Great for Princeton and the faculty, not so good for the managers themselves.
