Pros
One of my BCBAs would occasionally step in to do direct work while I observed, and I learned a great deal from those experiences. The support early on was strong, but over time it shifted to more remote supervision, which was less effective for my learning style. There were certainly some positive days with the company, but ultimately, it was not the right fit for me.
Cons
There was a noticeable lack of support and empathy for employees experiencing mental health challenges. At times, I felt ashamed of my own struggles, and there was little indication that mental health was taken seriously within the company culture. A trauma-informed approach should be applied not only with clients and their families, but also with employees. There was significant anxiety around canceling sessions, even when it was necessary for personal well-being. Additionally, there was a lack of positive feedback or expressions of gratitude from leadership—while families often shared appreciation, the company’s communication felt transactional, as though employees were primarily seen as revenue generators. Lastly, I often felt that my feedback and ideas were dismissed or met with doubt, rather than being welcomed as contributions to a collaborative team environment.
