A drastic change in culture is needed

Pros

You are able to meet with many brilliant people, some really good, friendly people with good passion. The work culture is flexible and schedule tends to be very accommodating.

Cons

Like many have expressed, there are big messes underneath a lot of politics. - We are seeing a lot of good talents are leaving the company. If you don't put resources to enable to business unit, there are purely frustrations - PMI has great research on Project Management, but isn't good at doing it. - Limited visibility across departments. It seems somewhat collaborating, the truth is, there is no system, people are constantly chasing one and other to get support and resources - No knowledge transfer - IT only focus on solving crisis. But on an operational level many systems are due for an upgrade so that we are not hammered by customers' complaints and spending ridiculously labor hours on playing work around

Pros

You can't beat the benefits. I left PMI with mixed emotions. I worked with many good, hard-working people who became my friends.

Cons

Management creates a culture of fear through politics, favoritism and inconsistency in performance expectations. Supervisors are way more worried about what their boss will think than doing the right thing. As others have said, lots of firing; many for unjust reasons. Going to HR is worthless. Stakeholders are not treated fairly. Each service center and PMI department make their own exceptions to rules and PMI policies. Lack of communication between departments is inexcusable.

Pros

Pay and benefits are wonderful. There are a lot of smart and dedicated staff.

Cons

Actions don't match the messaging. There is an enormous amount of favoritism and inconsistency in performance expectations. Some leaders get away with extremely poor performance and totally inappropriate staff management behaviors. Staff concerns are dismissed in favor of protecting the beliefs and perceptions that senior leadership wants to promulgate. Dissention is attributed to incompetence and incompetence is rationalized if you are one of the “protected”. Collaboration, if exercised appropriately. Here it is a euphemism for not delegating authority. It creates an environment where very few can actually get things done. Every organization has politics but here it really negatively impacts outcomes. That fact isn’t acknowledged because it is cloaked in the positive aspects of collaboration. Very few are empowered to make decisions and the organization is run through fear and intimidation, as has been stated by others. Rather than looking at learning opportunities, challenges and obstacles are hidden. Management will gladly own successes but quickly assigns blame rather than learn from hurdles that are overcome. Many very smart and competent people are underutilized especially if they have past experiences and creative ideas that suggest alternate approaches.
