Pros

1) Work/Life Balance in SOME areas of the company. 2) Various wellness facilities across the campus, including gyms, sauna, etc. 3) Wellness center on campus. Great alternative to trying to get a normal doctor’s appointment. 4) Coworkers are amazing, I have great relationships with everyone on my team. 5) Personally, I have a great working relationship with my boss who regularly advocates for me and is thinking about my growth and development. I have no ill feelings towards this person and my boss is the only reason I am still working here at this company.

Cons

1) The DEI initiative is incredibly performative. As a person of color, it’s really disheartening to see. They will attempt to celebrate holidays from other cultures and countries, but it comes off as tacky and disrespectful. Recently, it’s just been hanging up some tacky decorations and not saying a single word about it. I do not feel like Promega is an inclusive environment, and I think a lot of work needs to happen if they want DEI to be successful. Senior management is an incredible example of how diverse this company really is - there is no one like me at the top and I don’t see it happening anytime soon. ESI is the same way. Completely performative, and the people that really need ESI classes and training are the ones who won’t ever take it. Promega needs to do better with both DEI and ESI and learn how to use it effectively. 2) I’m honestly tired of hearing how great Promega is in terms of work/life balance and the ‘great’ benefits we have. Yes, my department has a great work/life balance, but most other departments do not. The pay is trash, and Promega will ride the ‘we have the best benefits train’ for as long as possible to avoid paying people more. The health insurance is incredibly average and nothing to brag about. Sure, I can get some blood work done here for free and there are a couple of PAs on staff, but that doesn’t make up for the premiums we pay and the high deductibles. Depending on the department you are in, there is absolutely no work/life balance. Managers care more about their own promotions/raises and will do everything it takes to get it, including making their direct reports come in during off hours or on weekends to get work done. 3) Where is HR??????? I have no clue who my HR representative is, and I have no clue how I would even reach out to them with my own issues. I have coworkers who have attempted to reach out to HR with their own issues, and HR has done absolutely nothing for them, hoping that issues will magically disappear. I understand HR works for the company and not for us lowly employees, but come on - where are you????? Why don’t I know who you are or how to contact you?? 4) AI. I am so sick of AI being shoved down our throats. Be expected to use AI to some degree whether you like it or not.
