Good for Gen X, not for Millenials

Pros

Promega has a relaxed environment with benefits that go far beyond most companies. Perhaps the best part is that the people who work there are fantastic. It's probably a great company if you're coming in at the mid-management/senior position level and have more room to make an impact.

Cons

Promega is still a corporation and you're still a cog. This is especially true for any position requiring less than 10 years of professional experience. You have specific job duties, and there is little to no room for growth when so many employees have up to 35 years of tenure. Ambition is not rewarded. The pay is not great—in my case, 40% below my subsequent employer.

All depends on your boss

Pros

Beautiful campus, fantastic wellness center, informal culture. Opportunities for growth and projects depend on your role and your boss. Decent benefits, pay is low in many areas. Some managers are truly the most fantastic people you will ever know.

Cons

Company is lacking vision and direction. Promega wants to be in every space, so there is a lot of investment in many different areas to gather a fraction of the market. This means huge numbers of projects. Some areas of the company are grossly understaffed. Company values airplanes over employees and functioning equipment. Some managers are autocratic, which has resulted in loss of good talent. The attitude is that everyone can be replaced. HR is powerless.
