Pros

Protiviti is a great place to start a career. For the college graduate, consulting / internal audit is great place to learn and experience multiple aspects of a business in a short period of time with little or no experience. Individuals who come out of consulting/professional services firms definitely have a leg up on individuals in industry as they have gained a set of skills in working between different groups and understanding how a business works.

Cons

The organization is still new although it aspires to be more established and well recognized. The Protiviti name is not exactly a "household" brand when it comes to internal audit and risk consulting - which may be a hard pill for the ex-Anderson types to swallow, but the company is pushing forward. Most consultants will spend a fair amount of time doing public compliance (SOX) work - which can get old pretty quickly if that is all you are staffed to.

Pros

If you're looking to start a career or re-invent yourself Protiviti is the place to be. If however, you are looking to continue your career growth it is not the place for you. Protiviti has everything necessary to allow someone to build a solid career until you reach the Senior Manager level.

Cons

Once you achieve Senior Manager or Associate Director, you will unfortunately get a front row seat in witnessing the backstabbing, indecision, and confusion that is Protiviti's executive and MD leadership team(s). They have over diversified themselves to the point of complete confusion. If you need proof, look at the confusion associated with how they align themselves internally. They restructured 2 years ago and no one knew what it meant, they did it again last year by renaming all their services and no one knew who they reported to, now they are doing it again. That much change, leads me to think Protiviti no longer knows who they are, or what they want to be....this has resulted in MD's blazing their own trails, and operating individually. In my opinion, this is why they are experiencing success in pockets, and not across an entire service offering, they are in effect....not operating as a team, but as a series of small practices associated by name only.

Pros

Frat life like atmosphere with young/engergetic people, good happy hours. You get exposure to project mgmt , many industries. Something great clients in exciting locations, otherwise your are small town USA with good people. You will get to work in diverse range of projects (sometimes) and this will help you hone in on your long term career goals. for example when you see another job you envy or client it helps you better understand your long term career goals. You learn effective ways to tackle tough problems . When you move on you will look like a super star for coming with inventive solutions (when really you have done it before) You learn to make great deliverables in a short period of times and learn to work under pressure.

Cons

- Lots of hours/ eating billable time work life balance Incompetent Mgmt IT audit focused firm Unable to deliver solutions since mgmt rarely understand anything but IT Audit
