As with any consulting firm, professional services is dependent on clients and prospects ability to spend $$. Given the economy, a consulting firm's revenue and cost structure must remain align. As a result, Protiviti's downsides are no different than the Big-4 and other large consulting firms.

If you are the primary carer of your children, working for Protiviti might be tricky. While I was always able to take time off if I needed, the career advancement was absolutely out of question. Professional services require steady 12 -14 hours a day. It is common to come home, feed the children and put them to bed and then continue to work a few more hours to be able to stay in line with your colleagues. And even if you do this systematically, it is unlikely you will get promoted. Another negative is the lack of office space, not to mention quality work space; you can be more comfortable in a bus station.
