Great People but....

Pros

When people say Protiviti has the best people to work with, they are not lying. Upper Management is easily accessible 10 week parental leave Clear path to promotion

Cons

Upper Management is mostly white males. Pay is WAY LESS than what the market calls for. Benefits are not comparable, 401k match is low, education support is very very low (you won't be able to pay 1 semester with their offering) Protiviti used to stand apart from the big 4 by allowing their consultants to have a work/life balance..... now it's turned to more of a big 4 culture where all that's being stressed is billable hours...

Pros

You are surrounded by okay people and the 40 hour workweek is real. The firm overall tries to be fun and brighten up what would otherwise be a very dull industry. Talent management has great people, but their job is made difficult by some arrogant and narcissistic MDs. Pay is good to start but quickly gets non competitive (so much bench time you won't even get ICP). Different company exposures and different industry exposure while on clients. Y All in all, Protiviti has generally nice people -Depending on the group you're in, Protiviti can possibly serve as a springboard to a more desirable job at one of your clients.

Cons

Big emphasis on Protiviti people and how great they are. From my experience, they were alright/nothing special. Every single person I knew at Protiviti was unhappy and considering leaving. The New York office had particularly high turnover. The on boarding for new hires is inefficient and a waste of time/resources. Protiviti has new hires attend a 10 day training program in Chicago prior to starting full time. This training program was almost identical to the 10 day training program in Orlando prior to starting the internship. After all this "training," I was very disappointing to then be staffed on the bench for the first 2 months of starting. And add in maybe another 2 months in between other engagements. You can expect to be on the bench at least 3-6 MONTHS your first year at the firm. It was painfully boring. I could not wrap my head around a firm that would invest so much time and money into their employees, and yet have no work for them to do. It was mind-boggling to me. It became very apparent to me that Protiviti's real focus is on marketing its promises. Not delivering them. Staffing is stupid. You will be thrown on whatever project they need you on, regardless of your background, skill set, future goals, travel preferences, etc. It might work out well for you, but it oftentimes doesn't. Your chargeability is a far second to how well you suck up to your superiors and how many worthless internal initiatives you're part of...be ready to attend a happy hour event once a week for the rest of your life as long as you're there - Caution to those considering coming here from the Big Four: your hours might be better but the caliber of everything is significantly lower...I WISH I WENT BIG 4

Thank you for your feedback. I'm so sorry to hear that coming back to work as a consultant was not a good experience for you. I agree that not being staffed is frustrating and I'm sorry to hear that's how you started your career here. It doesn't sound like you were able to work on challenging non-billable work during this time either, but our goal during any staffing downtime would be to to work on skills development and/or other challenging non-billable projects such as proposal work, innovation, solving a business problem, etc. That way you are still doing something very meaningful and growing your skills during this time. Again, I am sorry we did not meet your expectations and we wish you all of the best in the future!
