Depends on what you are looking for....
Pros
Overall, Protiviti is an decent place to start your career. If you are an accounting major trying to get your CPA but want to avoid the big 4 busy season this may be the place for you. Consulting service lines (IT Consulting, R&C, Business Performance Improvement) are harder to break into, and even if you do, you will still be expected to complete Audit work from time to time. General pros: - People are generally nice and easy to work with - Small company feel, pretty much know everyone in SF office. - Work/Life can be good but if you live in the city expect to drive down to SJ for extended period of times aka add 4 hours of commute time to a 8-10 hour workday.
Cons
- Management is great at promising but rarely delivers. Shady staffing politics behind the scenes. - When you first receive the job, they call you a "consultant" but reality is 90% of campus hires will be part of the internal audit practice - If you want to only perform consulting/advisory services look towards a Big 4 (PwC, KPMG, EY, Deloitte), or Big 3 (Bain, BDG, McKinsey). - Most people exit into fairly good jobs but if you know you only want to do consulting for 2 - 3 years, go with one of the brand names listed in the point above. Will be easier to score the dream job interview. - Perks/Benefits (for SF Bay Area) are substandard compared to most companies in the area.
