Reorganization after reorganization

Pros

The benefits and pay are good. Strong focus on improving patient care and emphasizing that every position exists to improve quality of care and access to care. Since the organization is so large it is fairly easy to change positions.

Cons

Many frequent reorganizations across the enterprise. Some were poorly thought out and thus another reorganization is spawned. Very passive aggressive organization that spends more time talking about issues than taking ownership and solving them. Human resources is very immature and poorly performing for an company of this size. The best opportunity to advance is by aligning or ingratiating yourself with leadership. In many departments performance means little.

Pros

Excellent hospital to learn and prefect my skills at. they are very busy and work by the book with no shortcuts. I am proud to have served my last clinical rotation there full time in ten hour shifts. I was able to work with minimal supervision and this helped me rely on my own abilities.

Cons

Most technologists were working per-diem and no benefits. I understand that our economy is in recovery and Obama Care is hard on California and (I hope) should be worked out soon.

Pros

For decades, Providence has been an excellent place to work and make a career. That is not true at the moment, however, and it is unclear whether it will become the case again anytime soon. The core values of Providence are amazing.

Cons

Financial stress, massive and constant reorganizations, poorly executed mission critical projects. As I mentioned, core values are an important and authentic part of Providence's identity and culture... except in periods of stress, when they're quickly forgotten.
