Pros

You can form good relationships with coworkers. Many people that work here even wind up getting married. They are good with your schedule of you can only work certain days or hours. If your part time you can ask for time off and get it basically whenever you want. They give you free stock and bonuses, but you have to work at least 1,000 hours a year to get anything.

Cons

The pay is horrible and even if you have been there for years they will hire people making maybe a dollar less than you. They try and fix your scores on your evaluations so that you can only get a small raise or no raise at all. Your manager won't stick up for you when a situation like above arises because they don't want to get in trouble from the store manager, even if they tell you they don't agree with it. Unless you are a manager the pay is pretty bad. If your full time its a little better but then they basically own you.

Pros

Employee owned if you get on permanent.

Cons

Shift supervisor yelled like an auctioneer and treated employees like mules. No one ever got designated 15 minute breaks. If one asks for a break, manager will say, ok take ten. They do not give mandatory breaks to anyone. Shifts are sproatic and sometimes too many days in a row of 10-12 hour shifts, then down to no hours. Pay is very low. Managers act like God is watching and they are afraid.

Pros

Publix is employee-owned and therefore is not as concerned in making a profit and is more apt to treat their employees well. Managers always try to do the right thing and are generally nice to you as an employee. Publix considers itself a family and therefore it is fairly easy to grow within the company, would you like to do so. In general, Publix always promotes from within. Publix does not lay off anyone for any reason and in order to get fired, you have to be doing something really bad. Publix pays over minimum wage, although not generously so, but they are flexible with your schedule. Training is great for the Deli department.

Cons

Publix has a good stock option/401k plan but unless you are a manager, other benefits are rare. The insurance is not worth it, but you do get a Christmas bonus. As mentioned as a pro, it is very hard to get fired which means that some managers who have performed extremely poorly, just get transferred to another store and not get fired as they should. Very difficult to get full time if you're a regular employee.
