Pros

Exposure and the knowledge of the people around. You get to work on some excellent projects depending on your professor. If one is interested in a field, then I guess purdue is a great place for graduate degrees.

Cons

Pressure - totally depends on your professor though. Funding within the department has been a problem to many new professors off late and doesn't look like getting better any time soon especially if you are in engineering and not in energy or bio-related field.

Pros

All of the cultural diversity. There is some of the top technologies being researched at all times, including government research.

Cons

The pay isn't that great since it was a research job. The city also can be pretty dead over the summer, and very cold in the winter.
