Pros

Pay at market rates, average benefits, int he office environment, you are pretty much free to do as you please.

Cons

Unbelievable management style in the white collar divisions. Most managers in the office environment have been here for 20+ years and so gradually, all their buddies are managers too. It not uncommon to have 2 desk or support workers and 6 managers above him. Also, across departments, this culture is common. It is one thing to be easy going but workers could not get away with what managers flaunt. Every-time an iPhone is released, the managers play with it for days at work; Farm-ville, funny sounds, Facebook, you name it. Also included in their favorite past-times is gossiping like old hens. The new thing at Quad is being a multitasking worker. It is demoralizing when six managers hold their daily boys club meeting all day; playing, gossiping, while allocating extra work because they feel you could further fill in your day. Two managers in my section had no outlined responsibilities but to show up to work and entertain the rest of the managers there. One manager, on company time, went to the gym after she deposited her belongings on her desk at 7am and then again for a gym class at 2pm. Most managers computer their and their peers hours such that they can safely take Friday off and not go into overtime. Total work on average per week would be 6 hours, total face-time would be 32 hours and time sheets will show 40 hours. If they required the managers to fill out a daily worksheet of what they did that day, 99% would be exposed as doing zero. A manager at their press controls division is straight out of college with a electrical degree, no experience in how to manage and is very celebrated among his peers. He has no control on waste and his peers are happy with his non-management. He treats the non-Caucasian workers with contempt, although ironically, he is not Caucasian himself. Too many egos out of control.
