Pros

The engineers on the team are often brilliant and highly competent. The product idea has pretty awesome potential, and from what I can tell (as an engineer) the business team is actually quite good at landing major corporate deals.

Cons

The engineering culture emphasizes technical prowess to the detriment of teamwork; too few people are trying to solve coordination problems when they arise, and many of the technical managers are inexperienced. (Though generally wonderful people! I understand they're trying hard.) The company's going through a difficult organizational transition, and is trying to deal with it by imposing many layers of management, and this isn't working too well.

Pros

Best location ever, downtown Mountain View, train passes, free food, collegial environment in some departments

Cons

They focused too much on creating an image of a big company without filling in the crucial pieces . One big thing missing is a working game changing product, business model and revenue. Quixey is now figuring out what product will make it successful by trying a variety of different paths, but 6 years later . They are not offering anything new, its now catching up and scrambling. Their competitors are a lot smaller & launched a viable product with a lot less. Quixey is empty and it's unknown where they will land. They're burning through their fuel rapidly.

Pros

There are still some smart and interesting people, the workday involves a good bit of flexibility and freedom, and fairly little mental energy is required to perform beyond expected levels. Compensation is good (relative to hours and difficulty of work), including salary, insurance, Caltrain, catered meals which are at least edible, and alcohol.

Cons

Bloated management structure, croneyism (There are many utterly incompetent employees who happen to share cultural background with the co-founders who would never have otherwise been hired.), ineffective communication, poor technical planning, obsession with trendy and meaningless buzzwords ("agile", "scrum", "OKRs"). Everything is built on least-common-denominator technology (Java, Guice, Gradle, Python), which seems to be necessary given recent hiring of what can only be described as "code-monkey" engineers.
