Pros

Projects are genuinely interesting and meaningful, with huge opportunities to learn about new areas and new research methods. Colleagues are some of the brightest and best, pleasure to work with and learn from

Cons

Pay is very low for the work, and hours can be long (50-60hrs not unusual). Office politics is abundant - sometimes feels like a disconnect between senior management and the lower research staff.

Pros

RAND are good at finding people without specific experience in research consultancy, but with skills that can be adapted to the environment, allowing you to kickstart your career. The management structure is more lateral so you don't feel like you're being micromanaged all the time. The people are great and a big part of why I enjoy the job. Interesting and impactful work, lots of government and EU contracts, and you (largely) get to work on projects that interest you. Clear expectations for progression.

Cons

Workload can be quite heavy at times, meaning you have to have a certain level of resilience to thrive in the role. The salary could be a bit better, but I guess that is the nature of non-profit companies, and starting without project management experience. EDI within the company also needs some work.
