Pros

- Great people - Great ideas - Massive scale - So much potential

Cons

- Poor execution - No investment in tech or infrastructure needed to operate long term - No clear vision and no focus on execution - One hand doesn't know what the other is doing or how it fits into the greater plan - running the backbone of the company into the ground or laying them off to meet budget requirements then wondering why things are falling apart

Pros

"Trauma bonding" with a handful of very smart individuals.

Cons

REEF once had great potential but is now on the precipice of ultimate failure after laying off 750+ corporates employees. And yet, every REEF failure can be placed squarely on the shoulders of the CEO co-founder Ari Ojalvo. Ari is what you get in the event that you blended Donald Trump and Muhammad Bin Salman and after that gave him Turkish Roots. Ari has a HUGE messiah complex and each choice he makes is in the interest of himself and his little circle of overpaid family individuals (many of REEF's EVPs are related to Ari) and an indeed smaller number of non-family loyalists. There's a saying that 'the fish rots from the head' and this is often certainly genuine at Reef Technology. Ari has repeatedly failed to keep top professional talent because, at REEF, there is only one way of doing things - Ari's way. Anyone who attempts to correct Ari's false logic or clarify a misunderstanding is likely to be personally insulted and then fired. Indeed the title 'Reef Technology' is a misnomer. Reef does not understand technology and leaves basic business decisions to McKinsey experts who continuously suggest outsourcing to India, Turkey and the Czech Republic - for everything. The CTO, while working with his best intentions, is left as a powerless puppet and cheerleader for the CEO's vision and corporate religion known as Reef's Values and Principles  .. which is intended to trick employees into believing that REEF cares about employees... when it doesn't. I've never been at a company that treated employees worse than REEF has. Ari values property over people and it appears in little ways, like REEF not paying out vacation days or giving nearly zero holidays and it appears in big ways. Over $700 million dollars was invested in physical infrastructure and acquisitions in specific markets meanwhile forcing 4+ rounds of internal layoffs, restricting advancements, bonuses and stock options. The best employees deserted the sinking ship that is REEF and you'll find them presently at companies like Google, Amazon, Doordash, and direct competitors like Gorillas, GoPuff, Dija etc. REEF's labor practices are terrible and individuals are frequently pushed to their physical and mental limits for zero reward. In a corporate meeting, Ari straightforwardly questioned why REEF was able to open a ghost kitchen in less than 10 days in Dubai, whereas it took 3 months within the US (disgracing the US group for taking too long)... while not recognizing that Dubai has nearly no regulations or labor laws. This implicit pressure is why REEF cuts corners and worked illicitly in a few US markets (some time recently they were caught) and this is an established fact (google it!). In reality, the cons are too long to list. For illustration, there are zero black leaders and nearly no ladies in strong positions of control or impact (except the legal dept which operates independently). In general, maintain a strategic distance from REEF at all costs and do not believe the hype about stock options as the CEO is too much of a narcissist to IPO anytime soon... as this would require that Ari relinquish power and control of the only thing that makes him an important person.

Pros

You will be challenged & likely deal with the most ridiculous situations you’ve ever seen in your career.

Cons

This company is a major liability. They consistently & knowingly break laws, operate without permits, and practice unethical behavior. The “leadership” team has no clue what’s going on in the company & no sense of reality. They are toxic and encourage unethical behavior by forcing employees to do whatever it takes to make money. They regularly go through mass hiring sprees & have layoffs consistently. Steer clear from this place.
