Pros

REI is a great company to work for. I like the people I work with and the projects I get to work on.

Cons

Over the past few years it’s become clear REI is losing its way. Bumpy retail times aside, it’s not the company it used to be. Leadership swirls, and we lack clarity in direction that used to be much more cohesive. There has been massive turnover and frustration among longer-term employees, as well as limited bonuses and not much opportunity for growth. Also not thrilled with our Experiences business going away, it’s something that helped differentiate us as being more than just a retailer. Now we have great diversity, but with so much turnover, we have lost quite a bit of historical knowledge in stores and in HQ.

Pros

Great co-workers who are willing to support others to reach business goals.

Cons

Layoffs 3 years in a row have made the culture feel a bit unstable. Each time, everyone left plays catch-up from all the knowledge lost.
