Pros

The engineering and design team are genuinely talented and hardworking. They were hungry for clear product direction and I could see exactly what was possible if they had it. That part gave me energy. Everything else drained it.

Cons

Critical decisions about the current features were made in huddles or buried in old meeting transcripts and even Claude hasn’t learned to read minds yet. I wasn’t able to have any handover session to get historical context until three weeks in. The person responsible for handing over was so consumed with maintaining control of my work (attending my meetings, answering on my behalf in Slack, having side conversations with engineers), that their own project deadlines slipped. They stayed visible to stakeholders the whole time, positioning themselves as the go-to person while I was left without the context I needed to lead. Commitments for the GA launch weren't clarified until a month out. New projects outside the agreed launch scope were accepted without consulting the team and without any communication about the trade offs. Asking basic questions got reframed as the problem. I was told I was "pulling on threads that had already been decided." Those threads related to de-risking a GA launch. That's not friction. That's the job. This is what I walked into: features committed to stakeholders before anyone confirmed technical feasibility. Engineers left making real product decisions under time pressure. What gets built that way isn't shaped by what's right for the user. It's shaped by what's fastest to build.

Pros

Awesome company that values its employees, and leads culture from the top down. The industry we work in is fun, and so is our culture. We don't shy away from a challenge, and it's inspiring to be part of something growing so fast and with so much success. The sales leadership are investing a lot into skills development, and creating a playbook built around value and ROI selling, which is resonating well with the market. We are not too big and not too small, but at the perfect place where autonomy and initiative meet processes and support - hands down, can't think of any other company I'd rather be working for.

Cons

Sometimes the processes and internal meetings can get a bit tedious, as the sales leadership are working hard to standardise everything. As such it can sometimes feel like jumping through a lot of hoops for the sake of it, although they are also open to feedback and will change something if its not working or adding value.

Pros

Very competitive salary, especially against the industry average. Lots of room to grow with great career progression. The product market fit is great, and it is a leader in the industry, which makes the sales process a lot more enjoyable. The best part of ROLLER though is the team, everyone from different departments gets along like friends, lots of chances for team bonding like mid year parties, pub lunches and nights out!

Cons

Some of the usual benefits you get from working in tech aren't available (Health insurance, more annual leave, health/gym benefits)
