      Overall Just Not A Good Place To Work

      Pros

      The pay at McGladrey is similar to other firms in the area based on other offers I received and classmates I have talked to who work at other firms in the area. McGladrey also gave out a signing bonus.

      Cons

      The people, plain and simple. Management really does not treat staff as professionals. Instead, we are treated as second-class citizens. We are switched from job to job without talking to us to see if we have prior commitments. Travel does not matter as we are scheduled overnight without much warning. There is also a lot of turnover.

      Took me two years before I realized I should leave

      Pros

      Met some great friends, learned about audit, not a bad place to start. I left after two years when I realized I would be happier in a big 4 environment (so far so good btw)

      Cons

      compensation is a joke compared to competing firms (midtier and big 4). hours aren't any better than competing firms. Staffing of jobs seems to be completely random, no logic whatsoever. Firings/layoffs happen more often than they should, and to people who aren't deserving.

      There seems to be more of an overall work life balance at McGladrey compared to firms of a similar size.

      Cons

      Benefits have declined in recent years and compensation is not always competitive. The firm doesn't always treat top employees well enough to retain them.
