Pros

There are some great people who work here. If you work in Support you will probably get years of experience crammed into months.

Cons

Let me start by saying that I might have given Rackspace one or two more stars, but I noticed that they have been putting up fake five star reviews, sometimes copying lines verbatim from other reviews. A such, I've decided to give a detailed list of cons. The pay is lower than it should be. They are paying on average about what I made in similar roles 15 years ago. If you are smart enough to negotiate fair pay they won't let you forget that you get paid more than average. Incredibly unprofessional. They're management has been seriously degraded over the last few years. Their current CEO will smile in your face and stab you in the back as soon as you turn around. If you aren't in San Antonio your career will be stunted. Self promotion is an art for some. Be prepared to watch the shameless sycophants rise through the company while you quietly do your job and get zero recognition. If you do manage to get recognition be prepared to start over again in three months when management changes and you get to work with a new manager who wants an something entirely different. If you don't work in the Cloud segments you aren't important. Nevermind that what you work on actually pays the bills.

Pros

There's some wicked sharp people there. I mean just unreal smart. You can learn a lot, and ramp up your skills quickly. The onsite gym, and lax dress code are a plus as well. The pros were enough to keep me there for over 5 years.

Cons

All those smart people? Yeah, they're leaving due to inept management from the directors on down. They don't listen to the front line/engine room rackers. Headcount is a joke. Queue volume would be if it weren't so absurdly terrible. Pay isn't close to competitive. Tuition reimbursement and 401k are a joke as well. Oh, and if you mention any of this in your exit interview, even in the most professional, and diplomatic manner possible, there are some senior leaders who will black ball you within the org, making it impossible for you to come back, even if you wanted to. That statement of "ineligible for rehire" can also cause you issues with future employment as well, depending on the degree of background investigation that is done. All of this is symptomatic of the petty, vindictive, wrong headed, nature which seems to be heart and soul of middle management.

Pros

Good friends who understand the same pain you are going through with this company

Cons

Not paid enough to put up with the demands your manager is giving you. Your manager has no idea how to manage, so the blame always falls on you. They have a management training program, but it does not seem to be helping with these new managers. They throw them in the wild and use the floor as a training ground. We are not a startup anymore, but they try to treat it as it is. If your customer complains, it is all your fault (sse) and not the AM, BDC, or any of the admins who screwed up. Before, it was all our cloud and no one else's, but now it is everyones cloud we manage. We don't even have people who understand our cloud, let alone now manage other clouds :( SLT is trying to throw darts blindly to see what works. We did this 5 years ago and got hurt and here we are doing it again. Politics suck here. Make sure to play the game right to get promoted. Will leave it at that.
