Pros

The Rackers. Those who still believe in the mission of being the world's greatest service company. Resume bonus points for working at the Rack.

Cons

The leadership. Who is making the manically strategy decisions around here? Middle and upper-management are in a political battle/land grab. Who should be held responsible for the lack of efficient execution of the strategy? Diversity in manager and leadership roles are a joke here. Easy to observe as an insider or from the leadership page on the website.

Pros

- Awesome Co-Workers - Plenty of Training Opportunities - Challenging work - Work/Life Balance - Generally Positive Atmosphere

Cons

- Low Compensation - Perpetually understaffed - Lack of clear direction - Expected to exceed expectations - Lack of organization in support structure A lot of the cons are due to recent changes after the new CEO was put in place. The company has driven away a lot of senior talent by forcing more work on these employees and taking away certain benefits .. all without providing any additional compensation. Was actually told in a meeting that the "awesome" company culture of Rackspace does not apply to Network Security employees due to the amount of work and lack of headcount.

Pros

The people are nice and helpful I suppose you are in charge of your own career development, but it's a double edged sword. If you are really good at your job, then you will get assigned more work and therefore won't have time to develop your career in supplemental education/certs.

Cons

Again, you can learn at your own pace, but while in a frying pan, cause a lot of the time you are forced to as the projects are extremely under resourced. This company tends to cut costs in areas that they think isn't essential without even asking their employees if they valued it. For instance, discontinuing learning sites, or some fringe benefits. Then replacing them with something that wasn't as important to them, i.e. minimal stock grants. Management is very out of touch with their employees. After not giving merit increases this year, they then decide to throw a virtual party for the anniversary of their acquisition two weeks later. I kid you not. Two weeks later. The CEO, whom still made millions of dollars in bonuses for the year had the audacity to brag about how the acquisition was the best thing that happened to him and was so glad he put his reputation on the line.... No mention on the lack of merit increases. No extra bonuses, or benefit given to the employees, especially in professional services (the dept that made them all their money). But hey guys, you get his appreciation. Because that should be enough to take to the bank, right?
