Pros

I worked at Raconteur for 2.5 years and learnt a lot. I joined as a publishing manager and was promoted to lead publisher after 9 months. The role is very challenging and stressful at times, but also incredibly rewarding. You're constantly encouraged to learn and develop as a person and surrounded by a supportive and collaborative team. It's rare that you get to work in sales teams which are genuinely happy for you when you perform well as it's usually very competitive - but definitely not the case with Raconteur. If you're ambitions, hard working and switched on, you'll love it here

Cons

The progression path could be made clearer across all divisions

Pros

Working for Raconteur was exciting, intense, challenging, but overall... enormously enjoyable. I began life as a Publishing Manager before being promoted to a Lead Publisher. With a background in more traditional sales & business development, I loved my time in the special reports division - combining core elements of commercial acumen and intellectual stimulation. The atmosphere is young, vibrant and energetic. Full of smart, ambitious people - driven by success, but equally up for a beer or three on a Thursday evening.

Cons

As the work is cyclical (i.e. typically working on 7-8 week projects) there can be intense periods with a lot of hard work required. Training and support is offered throughout, but the best publishers learn to grab the bull by the horns/take responsibility for their own destiny early in their career.

Pros

Entrepreneurial CEO who invests a lot in developing the staff. Positive office culture and management attitude that encourages employees to develop themselves and the company. Lots of dynamic, interesting and smart colleagues. Chance to interact with senior personnel at blue chip companies in a communications and sales role. Great remuneration if you can hack it.

Cons

Very challenging role that demands strong sales instinct. Some development programs embraces that are clearly nonsense (such as neuro-linguistic programming) Dance music played at loud volume in office, which can be irritating.
