Pros

I met amazing lifelong friends while I was there. That’s about it.

Cons

I know people talk about it lightly, but this place is actually a cult and I didn’t see it because of how roped in I was. It’s really hard to see it while you’re there because there is so much talk about your Ramsey family, and how you should be completely loyal to the company. They make you believe you are a part of something special, when in reality you end up way overworked, exhausted and push yourself past what’s normal because you are forced into believing it’s for the greater good. You are constantly told stories about how Ramsey “takes care of their own” while also hearing “if you don’t like it here then don’t let the door hit you on the way out” in the same sentence. Their business practices are absolutely questionable and there were so many times I didn’t feel comfortable with the job I was asked to do, but if I spoke up at all I was labeled as someone who isn’t a team player. I didn’t fully understand how scarred and manipulated I was until after I left, which means I wasted years of my life living in extreme anxiety and fear. I was afraid to speak up at my new job, terrified I would get fired over a mistake, so worried I wasn’t pushing hard enough or if I expressed my concerns I would be shunned. I had to “detox” from a seriously unhealthy work environment. So don’t walk, RUN far far away.

Pros

There are some good growth opportunities here, especially if you are a beginner software engineer. I consider myself lucky to have had an empathetic leader who helped me worry about work less during some personally dark times. Your mileage may vary - others I know were not so lucky. Some fantastic people work here and I've made some very good life-long friends as a result.

Cons

While initially a good job to start out in, over time my experience there soured as company policies and behavior became more apparent. I began to be worn down by leaders who would sometimes lie from stage without accountability. I also remember hearing the phrase "we treat you like adults here", but usually before a lecture to the whole company on how to pick up after yourself or not play ping-pong all day instead of work. Over the course of my employment, my performance reviews were generally approving of my work but lacking in clear feedback. Each report would include usually glowing reviews from my peers, but the actual score would almost entirely be based on other leader's opinions of me. Very little respect was shown for long-term career goals or impacts. Moving from one technology to another regularly is normal for some parts of the company, even if it is outdated and/or rarely used in the broader industry. Mandatory staff meetings were sometimes interesting but, in my opinion, were mostly full of could-have-been-an-email updates and self congratulatory presentations. The huge Christmas Party was fun at first, but began to feel forced and more like a publicity stunt than a party for employees. To be honest, I'd rather have gotten better health insurance than a giant party and a small bonus check every year. I'm overall just sad at how much things could have been different. I believe this company could have changed the way we all manage money for the better, but arrogant leadership and corporate greed seem to have gotten in the way. Also if you are not a hard-line Republican and/or evangelical Christian, this would be a tough place to work. Those views are regularly espoused as fact and open dialogue about alternative opinions is not particularly welcomed.
