Pros

The people (your peers) are incredible. They bring you in, love you well and when you're just working on your day-to-day tasks, it'a great place. If you are content to work at a place with lots of fun, in-office perks and nice people you will be really happy here. If you want any kind of advancement, more responsibility, respect, etc. from your leaders then you will not be happy here for more than a few years. Christian company is both a pro and a con. Pro in that your peers will be the nicest souls you'll ever know. They will pray for you, rally around others, etc. They are generous and sincere. The con is that leadership uses "God" as a weapon. They will use "God" as a reason to fire, hire and do whatever they want.

Cons

You can be promoted from within... if you're friends with the right people. That's truly all it takes. They will promote the funny, charismatic novice over someone who has loyally worked (but been quiet about their accomplishments) for YEARS. I saw it happen first hand dozens and dozens of times. If you're not in bed with the right people, you'll never advance. It's particularly difficult to work here as a woman, and not because of the men... but because of the women on the board who personify female cattiness. They want to be the only ones on top. On the same day they wear a mini skirt, they will call you into their office to tell you that "men are visual creatures, and your clothes fit you too well. you should go up a size." (Actual, mortifying conversation with SS) They will stand up in staff meeting, all smiles (in front of Dave) and say "welcome in the new people! make them feel at home!" and then an hour later COMPLETELY ignore your existence in the elevator (JS). If you're liked by the right people, this will be the best job you ever had. If you're the other 90% of the company, you will hustle and hustle and hustle and never get the praise, raise and affirmation you deserve. But hey, you get 1,000 at Christmas so you should shut up and be grateful right? And when you feel like it's time to move on.... good luck. You will pushed out so fast and treated like the enemy. "God's calling" is an excuse only they can use, apparently.

Pros

I can't pretend I don't get frustrated, but honestly, overall- this place is really great. I have a Leader who values my professional insights, as well as, values me as a person. We have flexible working schedule, we have great team members, lots of company perks, and a mission I personally believe in.

Cons

If our principles of personal finance aren't something you feel passionate about, this is not going to be your "dream job". You may see other reviewers saying if you aren't all in on the financial principles, you can't get promoted. While in general, I think that's incorrect, I also can see some truth to that. Purely because if you are heavily invested in what we do, you are more likely to come up with great ideas to move the company forward and are passionate enough to be excellent. No, this place isn't perfect, but what company is?! Any time people are involved, things are bound to get messy, but this company tries harder to do the right thing than any other company I've been part of.

Things They Are Changing

Pros

Christmas Party is the best ever. Mostly great, genuine people. The mission to help people with money is legitimate, and a lot of people really make a difference.

Cons

Senior leadership is completely removed from the day to day and makes decisions without any input from the people who do the job. Half of the board doesn't seem to know what their doing, and most of them rarely if ever actually communicate with the team outside of staff meeting. Morale sucks in some departments. Senior leaders act one way with Dave and another way with their departments. A lot of people that have been here 5-10 years have left in the last year. The company is growing in spite of the bad management but not near at the pace it was a few years ago because so many people are leaving that the hiring can barely keep up. The more the place grows, the more it seems incapable of mantaining a healthy workplace environment. If the right people don't like you, even if it's for silly reasons, good luck getting promoted or recognized. Some of the processes are very old-school and made sense in the 1990s but not now. Telecommuting isn't an option, ever, even on snow or ice days. You'll have to take PTO. Also, if you're not a conservative Christian you're not going to like it here.
