Pros

Great people! Great location in downtown Seattle! The products are compelling, and they are starting to figure out the business models in the area of music.

Cons

Sometimes the expectations are unreasonable. Poor middle management- nasty, bad attitudes, no oversight. Really bad salaries, by comparison. There does not seem to be a cohesive strategy for some parts of the company, specifically the systems business, and it seems to be languishing as people leave for other companies, or other positions in the company. Review never results in any more than a 3 maybe 4% increase.

Pros

There are some really good people here. Too bad the company doesn't care if they stay or leave. And the knowledge they have goes with them when they leave. Have seen too many good people quit over burnout, and / or company politics. Some of the best qualities about it are their good benefits, good work atmosphere, stock...hahaha, and there is even a bowling alley in the basement. There are opportunities to see some really good bands/shows. Most of the managers don't micromanage their employees. Free rhapsody accounts for employees so you can get all the free music you want.

Cons

The company underpays its employees. Need to get 'real' with the salaries. Too many re-orgs. Lots of HR/compensation issues. Company acts like a startup sometimes... The company has its fingers in so many different directions - music, subscription businesses, games, etc...

Pros

Experience; personal challenge; slow pace for someone that enjoys that environment; opportunities to work in digital media. I view Real as a great first job to try to decide what you like in this type of industry.

Cons

Very little long-term professional growth; highly underpay at all levels; no control or input on company or group direction at the lower levels. Real is a place to work if you really like slow environments and aren't motivated and/or personally challenged to continually grow. Most people who are long-timers at Real are more content with having a job vs. growing a career. This is fine for a certain type of personality, but it's not a good environment for people who do love to be challenged and continually learn and grow.
