Pros
There used to be a lot more to say here... My direct supervisor is great to work for and vacation is good. The last few years there has been a strong effort to seriously address the need to update the products and technologies and face the facts that without this there will be no future for the company. The company has lately emphasized stabilizing issues and reducing bugs vs racing to release more and more features on existing products. I have not been sexually harassed in some time, so that's a plus, possibly indicating some of the old Southern mentality is not as strong as it used to be.
Cons
Pay is very low; raises and promotions do not exist no matter your tenure and performance reviews. Benefits (other than vacation) are being reduced. Communication is horrible, leaving employees feeling like they are in the dark and no longer part of a team. Many of the best employees are leaving. Management does not care about this exodus of people and knowledge. They expect those remaining to work more and more hours to get the work done. Burnout is high. Inter-department projects are poorly managed, and inter-department communication does not exist. Decisions coming from upper management seem to be made without input and knowledge from lower management/supervisors. They often makes no sense to those that know the in's and out's of the project / product. Company processes are mostly non-existent. Upper management only seems concerned with making things look good on paper, presumably for our owning investment firm to sell the company at a premium. (And yes, a business's purpose is to make money, but the plans do not seem to include making it sustainable.)
