Pros

Diverse opportunities. A wide range of tasks and job roles available. Flexible schedule. "Get out what you put in." If you prove yourself and are very proactive you will greatly benefit.

Cons

The responsibility of managing your own schedule and time may be detrimental to some people versus a job which will take a more hands on approach to managing an employee. Pro or con depends on the person.

Pros

Interesting work most of the time. Friendly engineers and scientists.

Cons

Where to begin... -The company is unable to retain top talent, and has recently engaged of several rounds of layoffs. -Employee morale is incredibly low. -Unrepresentative performance review/feedback that stalls career growth. -A bloated corporate budget that siphons money from the engineering efforts, resulting in failed technology demonstrations and loss of contracts. -Leadership quietly scaled back benefits resulting in more expensive health insurance premiums -- extremely sneaky and unprofessional.
