Great flexibility and strong culture, but pay could improve
Pros
Remote is a genuinely good place to work if you’re well suited to async, fully remote work. There’s a lot of flexibility in when and how you do your work, at least in my role, and I’ve never felt expected to be online at one exact time just for the sake of appearing available. That creates a lot of room for deep work, focus, and doing your best work without unnecessary meetings or performative presence. The caliber of people is high. It can be a tough environment because expectations are high, but that also means you’re working with strong teammates and learning quickly. The culture rewards ownership, clear communication, and good judgment. Benefits are above average. The PTO policy is strong because it gives real flexibility while still setting a clear expected range: around 25 to 30 workdays per year, with extra approval if you go beyond that. That makes taking time off feel expected, not just allowed. The leave coverage is also genuinely strong. Parental leave includes top-ups where needed, and the broader leave policies cover some difficult life events, including pregnancy loss or miscarriage. That’s not exactly a benefit you celebrate, but it matters a lot that it’s there for people who need it. Remote is also serious about AI. It’s not treated as a side project or something only technical teams use. It’s becoming as expected as using a computer. That makes it a great place to learn, experiment, and build real AI fluency, with access to the latest tools and very few practical limits.
Cons
Fully async remote work is not for everyone. Depending on the team and role, it can feel isolating at times. You need to be comfortable working independently, writing clearly, and creating your own structure. The high performance culture can also be tough. It pushes you to get better, but it may not be the right fit if you want a slower or more traditional work environment. Salary seems on the lower side of average compared to some market options. The flexibility, benefits, autonomy, and learning opportunities make up for some of that, but compensation could still be more competitive
