Pros

Nice people to work with. Believe in their mission. Feel like you're can make a difference in education. Strong goals of using best practices and implement many of them. Have a few very talented people. Attempting to recognize talent.

Cons

Technical abilities are sorely lacking. Too many skilled programmers who's understanding is only skin deep. Architecture is an afterthought. Solve technical debt by shuffling it around and creating more. Virtually no coordination among programming teams. Spend most of your time fighting the system and not actually doing your job. Many in senior positions are poster children for cargo-cult. Talented individuals get stuck supporting and maintaining the system because they're the only ones capable of doing so.

Thanks for expressing these concerns. We're investing deeply in both devops automation and quality automation to help reduce support and maintenance time.

Pros

Renaissance has a great mission and stays focussed on it. It values its employees and continues to reward and recognize them.

Cons

It can be difficult to "keep pace" with the many advances being made in its products.

I appreciate you leaving this review and am happy that you feel valued at Renaissance. That’s what we like to hear! I know that we are moving quickly and the pace can be brisk. However, we always want that pace to be in service of teachers and students consistent with your thoughts. Thank you for your commitment, and for being part of our team! – Mike Evans, Interim CEO

A company with a great mission but no vision

Pros

The mission is its strength and will always be. Great history and reputation!

Cons

The lack of vision from leadership makes it hard to stay invested in Renaissance's mission. Like many books, it started out great but it lost me in the middle chapters. I hope the remaining chapters will pick up again because the characters were great and their ambition inspiring. With the right leadership and vision, this company can easily multiply their worth. If you can imagine it, you can do it! Except there is no imagination here, just business.
