It's hard to get wrapped up in a life-long career dream when, everywhere you turn, somebody's trying to make it more miserable for you. What's not to like about flying around the country, flexible schedules and awesome coworkers? Scheduling that treats you like crap, managers who look for ways to punish you, no support from the company in reigning in unreasonable passengers, too-short overnights, too-long duty days, either too-short-for-meal or too-long-to-be-real layovers between flights, inflexible management human resource practices, and a really tragic reserve process.

Be a pilot for Republic Airlines and for the first 6 to 7 years you will be an FO making no more than $37,000 a year. First two years sway worse than that. A very poor mismanaged company.
