Pros

RDI provides immense opportunity for growth for junior staff. I came in as an entry level software developer with a background in geographic information systems and cartography. I was highly motivated and seeking to be a proficient software developer. Working under senior staff I was able to learn and grow. I moved quickly to a high ranking developer position.

Cons

Investment opportunities in the company are more or less non-existent. The path to ownership is difficult to ascertain and seems unlikely for most anybody that didn't get in on it 10 or 15 years ago. Insuring an entire family on the insurance plan is prohibitively expensive.

Pros

Great talent. The company provides really good networking opportunities. RDI is definitely a career and not just another job. The President is a solid leader, very approachable and has a real pulse on what is happening.

Cons

RDI is not just Alaska anymore and this is awesome for opportunities, diversity and career growth but there could be better collaboration between branches.

Pros

Alaska is the most beautiful place I have ever been. RDI is great about letting employees pursue our interests outside the organization. I enjoyed my time there very much.

Cons

The Alaskan winter nights can be tough to get used to the first year you are there. If you can handle the first winter, though, you will be fine.
