Pros

Stability and consistency. I felt really secure in my position at RDI and was lucky to get to work with the people I did, there are some really smart engineers there. I was never expected to take my job home with me and made some great friends there in the end.

Cons

I think your experience can vary pretty wildly based on who your manager winds up being when you start. It's a good sized software company by Alaska standards and there can be a lot of variability because of it.

Pros

Work-life balance is excellent. Salaries based on actual hours worked are extremely competitive - in fact better than most. Recruiting is selective and folks hired are the best in the business. Endless opportunities for motivated consultants.

Cons

Those who require a bit more structure won't get it here. You need to be fairly attracted to a flat structure and be comfortable taking on lots of different varied challenges. Benefits could be increased a bit.

Pros

If you work hard, do quality work and have ambition, you will be rewarded handsomely at RDI. They are very good about letting you guide the kinds of work you want to do, and then environment is as laid back as you will ever see in a business of this size. Salary is in line with other companies, benefits are good and getting better every year, and the HR department is the most active I've ever seen and genuinely cares about employees.

Cons

Not as much leave time or retirement contribution as the clients that you will be working for. Management is almost too relaxed in a way, and though it is part of the company's desired culture, it leads to communication problems between workgroups at times.
