Pros

TRAINING Revature offers training and the training is good. You are paid to learn and paid to increase your skills while you interview with clients and await placement. Myself and all of the people I trained with were placed on a client project within two months of completing the training program.

Cons

PAY During training the pay is minimum wage and for me that was more than acceptable. But when I signed on with Revature I was led to believe that once I was selected by a client the pay would be 55K. It is not. I'm paid twenty one per hour, which in my area is not enough to live on, particularly for a single parent, which I am. In my area, a living wage is forty per hour. I worked two jobs during training but I can't work two jobs for the next two years. BENEFITS The medical benefit plan has a really high deductible. For a young person without significant health concerns, my health related expenses are unlikely to exceed the deductible. I was better off on Medi-Cal.

Pros

The training was great during the first 12 weeks of my placement. We had a great trainer and I do feel that I learned a lot and sharpened my skills substantially from where they were at the beggining.

Cons

The compensation is rediculous and comes without any rhyme or reason. I trained with someone that had 0 dev experience before coming to revature and they got placed with a client in Madison Wi for 27 an hour and I got placed in Philadelphia for 21 an hour. Absolutely no justification for that especially when you consider the fact that I have a CS degree and industry experience. Also - every stage of their operations other than the training portion was unprofessional and disorganized. They have a full HR team to put you in front of prospective clients but the team has a minimum 24 hour lag on questions from associates. AKA I'm supposed to start work on Monday and haven't been given any information on how to do that --- and I'm not shocked by this whatsoever the staging/onboarding experiences after the training has been terrible.

Pros

Best teachers you will ever have. Taught me more in 10 weeks than the 4 years of college I had.

Cons

You often don’t know what the heck is going on. If you’re all about knowing what is going on a couple weeks in advance, this is not the place for you. Also, don’t choose them right out of college. Give several months of a job search and choose Revature as a last resort. Revature does trainings throughout the year so there’s no need to jump with them too soon. You will get better pay elsewhere plus there’s no need in jumping into a 2 year contract because you “need a job now”.
